Acoustic Foam for Home Enteriantment

Having a home cinema can be a great bonding experience for a family and provide endless hours of entertainment. And with our fabric covered tiles, even more pleasing to the eye!!

Obviously, there is a lot of things that need to be put into a home cinema to make it right, such as the TV or projector system, speaker systems, lighting and of course the seating.

But there is also another aspect that takes careful fine tuned and probably one aspect that most people don’t even think about, and that is the acoustics of the room. The sound quality of the room is actually more important than you would think, there is no point in bringing the horse to water if there is no water for it to drink!!

Most people consider a great sound system is the key to a good cinema room, you can actually have TOO MUCH sound!!

Most cinema rooms are much smaller than the traditional movie theatre, sound waves bounce around the room and that in turn can cause an echo or vibration which comes out as a muddy, unclear sound.

And this is where our acoustic panels come into play!!!

So, what are acoustic tiles?

Acoustic panels are sound absorption tiles that are mostly made of foam.

Sound waves bounce mostly off hard surfaces so the softer foam material helps to dampen an extra echos and stop so many sound waves rebounding throughout the room.

Now we know what Acoustic tiles are, how do they actually work?

Acoustic tiles are designed to absorb some sound waves and dampen echoing or reverberations. They are strategically placed in certain spots in a room to help control the way sound waves bounce.

The ultimate purpose of the tiles is to control RT time, Reverberation Time. This time will depend on the size of the room, for example as library would need more panels as it is a quiet and larger space whereas a home cinema or studio will be smaller so will need fewer tiles to help control the sound rather then get a muffled sound.

However, acoustic tiles don’t just absorb sound and muffle vibrations, they also diffuse the sound so it becomes a more pleasant listening experience.

Diffusion helps reflect some of the sound back into the room so that it sounds natural without interfering and creating a muffled noise. This helps create a more “surround sound” especially in home theatres.

So, how many acoustic tiles do I actually need?

There is no general rule as to how many tiles you will need as it is no based on the square footage of the room. Two rooms could be exactly the sound but will need a different number of panels due to the placement of the sound eqiupment.

We can advise you though to take some of the following into consideration when deciding on how many tiles you will need for your space.

  1. Rooms that are rectangle or square in shape need more tiles as they create additional reflection points.
  2. If the walls are made of concrete or have additional hard surfaces such a wooden stairs, you will need more tiles.
  3. You will need to pin point all the reflection areas in the room, you will then know where you need to place your acoustic tiles and then you can calculate what you need.

DIY Pallet Furniture

If you enjoy making things from scratch and are actually good at it, this is right up your street. Cheap, affordable pallet furniture, all you need is wooden pallets, nails, power drill, screwdriver ,measuring tape and of course protective equipment!

Why not try get some free wooden pallets from companies that aren’t using them, there are plenty of places that are more than happy to give away some pallets so ask around before you go buying some.

The number of wooden pallets that you need depends on how large you want your furniture, but let’s start with 10 wooden pallets.

To begin, take 3 pallets and place them in an L shape on the ground as this will be the base of your seats. Then, take another 3 and put them evenly on top of the other previous 3, this gives you the height you need for seating. Then you need to secure the top and bottom pallets together using screws, nails or glue. At this point you need to decide if you want individual seats or you can join them all together whatever you prefer.

Next, take 3 more pallets and remove the top half. This is the backs of the seating. Secure the backs to the seating again using screws, nails or glue.

And just like that you have upcycled furniture – all you need are comfy cushions to sit on so pop over to our website where we can take care of that for you!

As for the remaining wooden pallets you can make a side table or just dispose of it if you have enough DIY for now!!!!

Feel like reducing some of your soft toys? Read onto a guide on how to revive your favourite toy. (for reference we have used a teddy bear)

So, How do I revive a favourite toy?

So I hear to ask, how exactly do I revive a favourite toy?

Well first thing you need to do is order Foam Crumb from the link below.

Next, you need a few items to help you. You are going to need a pair of scissors, some thread, a needle and of course the foam crumb.

Make an incision in the back of the teddy bear with your scissors (don’t worry its doesn’t hurt)! The incision should be approximately 3 inches in length along the main seam of your teddy bear.

The size of the incision will alter depending on the size of the bear!!

So, once the incision is made, remove the current toy stuffing. If you want to wash the bear this is the perfect time to do that. But don t forget to hang the bear to dry fully before continuing your project.

When the bear is fully dry, you can then take your toy stuffing and fill the bear as evenly as you can.

Then stitch the back of the bear back up with your needle and thread as evenly and neatly as you can, and Voila you have a brand new bear!!

All thanks to a little time and effort and some high quality crumb from Foam2Home!
